#301. Movie Buzz

1. Pardon me, have you seen a little mermaid?
Brian Grazer, co-producer of Splash, is set to scale the heights of fish-folk comedy yet again with the upcoming Merman. The romantic comedy script by Jennifer Hollander has been acquired by Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment, trade paper Variety reports. No casting has been announced yet. The story is about a merman who leaves his watery abode to look for his missing fiancee, who has left him for a human. If they name her Ariel or Madison, we're going to be soooo annoyed.

2. All Up and animated over a first-time honour
Executives at Wal Disney Studios and Pixar Animation are probably over the moon because of the news: the latter's upcoming 3D feature Up will be the opening night movie at this year's Cannes Film Festival. This is the first time a Disney film and an animated feature have been chosen for the prestigious slot.Pixar chief creative officer John Lasseter said the honour "further supports our belief that a great animated film is simply a great film."Up, directed by Monsters, Inc helmer Pete Docter, is the story of a cranky 78-year-old balloon salesman who ties thousands of balloons to his house and lifts off on the adventure of his dreams.
