1. Van Damme stabs, Jones shoots - but will he score?
Action star Jean-Claude Van Damme and football hardman-turned-actor Vinnie Jones will star in Weapon, about two assassins who team up to take down a drug cartel chief. The only catch: the drug lord is backed by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) for whatever reasons.According to an item on Dark Horizons, Jones will be a sharpshooter and J-CVD will be a knife expert.Russell Mulcahy (Highlander, Resident Evil: Extinction) will direct.
2. Ratner has a taste for Youngblood
Director Brett Ratner (X-Men: The Last Stand) will bring his comic-to-movie "cred" to another adaptation, Rob Liefeld's Youngblood.Given that Youngblood - one of the pioneer titles put out by Image Comics back in 1992 - hardly registers today, we're not optimistic about this project.Still, Liefeld apparently told MTV's Splash Page that writers Chad Damiani and J.P. Lavin will be handling script duties on the Youngblood adaptation.
3. Rachel Weisz sizes up Hedy Lamarr
Mummy marvel Rachel Weisz is up for the part of screen icon Hedy Lamarr in an upcoming biopic of sorts, Face Value.Lamarr, who is best known as Delilah in the Victor Mature biblical epic Samson and Delilah, was also a scientist whose frequency-changing techniques and radio guidance system for torpedoes paved the way for modern wireless communications. The Hollywood Reporter says Face Value, an independent feature to be directed by Amy Redford (yes, the daughter of Robert), will most likely focus on the scientist portion of Lamarr's life. The Austria-born Lamarr retired from the screen in 1958 and passed away in 2000.
