1. Disney embarks on Stan Lee's Nick Ratchet project
Stan Lee, the Man who created so many beloved Marvel Comics superheroes, has a new idea for a different kind of hero - and Disney has bagged the project.The Hollywood Reporter says a script is being written for Lee's concept of Nick Ratchet, which is about a mild-mannered policeman whose life is taken over by his videogame avatar, the hardboiled character of the title.Richard LaGravenese, writer of The Fisher King, is on board to direct. Douglas Cook and David Weisberg (writers of The Rock) are working on the screenplay.
2. Ghostbusters 3 ready to roll by late 2009?
Production on Ghostbusters 3 could begin as early as November or December this year, according to an article in the LA Times.Dan Aykroyd, one of the original Ghostbusters, said the script is by Year One writers Lee Eisenberg and Gary Stupnitsky and will feature a new generation of spook-chasers taking over from the old team.The original gang is back - Aykroyd will be joined by Harold Ramis, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson - and Sigourney Weaver is also returning, the article said.
3. Another techno-thriller from Wargames scribe
Producer Walter Parkes, who also wrote the screenplay for the 1983 John Badham techno-thriller Wargames, is returning to the sub-genre with an adaptation of the novel Daemon.The book, by Daniel Suarez, is about an electronic game designer who dies and leaves behind a deadly legacy to combat mankind.According to Variety, Parkes will co-write the adaptation with David DiGilio, who wrote and produced a short-lived 2007 TV series called Traveler.Parkes also wrote the script for another techno-thriller (of sorts), Sneakers.
